The Burning of Kindness

The kindness of God is rooted in His love for us His children and the greatest act of love and kindness is the Cross.

John 3:16

“For God, so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life”

I imagine kindness like the burning embers of a fire. It radiates, glows, and lights up an area. It draws people in. Just like a fire on a cold day! Kindness changes the atmosphere around you. An act of kindness can melt the hardest heart. Kindness is more than just caring for one another. Kindness is a mindset. It is intention with a purpose. Remember that Jesus died for all of mankind. We are called to be a people FULL of kindness and live like Jesus. I’ve been reading about the life of Moses and how he lived his life. The Lord chose Moses to be the only one who was allowed to come near to the Lord and ascend the Mountain of God (Exodus 24: 2.) God met with Moses and He called him a friend. Moses was a servant of the Lord and led his life in this posture. Moses moved in the fruit of kindness because he spent time with His Lord and allowed Him to be a part of his life. Moses' face shined; Exodus 34:29 “When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hand, he did not know that the skin of his face was shining [with a unique radiance] because he had been speaking with God.”

I love the example of Moses and how he lived his life. The more time we spend with the Lord it changes us from the inside out and enables us to live a life filled up with God’s presence. He imprints our hearts, our minds, and our bodies separating us from the world. So much that our physical appearance can change!

1 Peter 2:9

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a consecrated nation, a [special] people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellences [the wonderful deeds and virtues and perfections] of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light”

Kindness stands out. Kindness draws the glory of God and when you move in kindness people can’t help but take notice. I recently had my day “interrupted” by the Lord. I found myself changing my schedule and decided to head out with my husband to go and run some errands. While in line, I noticed someone needed help so I stepped in and helped out with the issue and continued on my way with no thought of the impact of my small act of kindness. The cashier who witnessed the event was so moved that I helped out in the situation that she made a comment and was truly shocked. The couple that I helped was amazed at my small act of kindness and were surprised and thanked me for it. A small act had affected so many! When I made it to the car, I started crying. I realized how God set me up to meet this couple in line and help them. Kindness doesn’t just bless those around you but it blesses the one who witnesses the act. I was amazed at the kindness of God and how He truly takes care of his children. Matthew 5:45 says, … “He causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” How good is the God we serve? How he cares for the whole world and all of His creation. How important it is to be like the One whom we serve. Kindness is a ripple effect.

Let God interrupt your planned-out day and use you to release His loving kindness. Shine bright for the glory of the Lord. Don’t let the world fool you to think that the act of kindness is weak or a simple small act. We need Jesus and the help of the Holy Spirit to control our flesh and lay down our personal opinion, hurts, and even what we may think is our right. Simply surrender all to Jesus and live a life that reflects the One who first loved us. Jesus is the greatest example! Jesus ate with sinners. He healed the diseased. Jesus forgave all who betrayed him. Jesus shows us there is no end to kindness. This posture of kindness will always triumph over hatred. Kindness is

a lifestyle choice and requires action from us. God calls us to be the light in the world - to love and be kind to all, even our enemies!

Let's Pray:

Holy Spirit set us apart from the world. Cause us to burn for Jesus and to be like Him. Lord, we want to be a burning flame in this dark world. Lord, You are richness in Your loving kindness. Lord, flow over me today! Holy Spirit dress us in the garment of kindness. Allow us to shine bright in this dark world. Changing every place our feet touch with the power of kindness! (Ephesians 2:7) Lord, help us to show kindness to all and reflect Your goodness and love. Lord thank you for the gift of kindness and the blessing it releases over our lives! Bless us as we serve to be a blessing!

In Jesus Name, AMEN!
