Matthew 6:11-13
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors {letting go of BOTH the wrong and the resentment}. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. ; For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen].
Most of us have heard this Scripture, either in a sermon or heard someone recited it, however, have you taken the time to think about what “ daily bread” actually means beyond actual edible food?
In John 6:35, Jesus tells us that HE is the Bread of Life and whoever comes to Him will NEVER go hungry or thirsty BUT WILL be SATISFIED. Our bodies cannot survive without water and food. We weren’t created to starve. If that is just in the natural then how long can survive, let alone thrive when we go without feeding our spirits?
To live an abundant and full life we need Jesus daily. Only Jesus can satisfy. I know for myself you can tell when I haven’t had my time with the Lord, I’m a little crunchy if I’m honest! Another important fact about John 6:35, Jesus feeds over 5,000 people. This shows us that in Jesus we will always have what we need and He will never leave us dissatisfied or wanting for more. We can come to Lord with anything; He will NEVER disappoint us or leave us with ANY lack.
The story of sister's Mary and Martha in Luke 10:38-42, when broken down you can see how each sister focused on a meal. Mary found her meal at the feet of Jesus while Martha was focused upon preparing a meal in the natural and working in her own strength. For today’s post, I’m just going to focus on verse 42, which says, “but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part [that which is to her advantage], which will not be taken away from her.” Let’s learn from these sisters and let us have the same intentions as Mary. I understand what it is like to be like Martha, I can easily become entangled and focus upon my checklist and lose focus on things that really matters.
My Prayer for you:
Jesus may we feast upon you daily. Holy Spirit stirs in us a hungry for eternal things. Jesus fix my all upon you alone. Thank you that you are our daily Bread and you satisfy. I pray Lord when life gets busy and we lose focus that you quickly remind us of the story of Martha and Mary and therefore we know it's time to refocus upon you. Jesus thank you for the Cross and that we can have these precious eternal promises now on earth. Thank you Jesus for always welcoming us to your table.
In Your mighty name, I pray Amen.
“Mary found a meal at the feet of Jesus.” 🙌🏻. So brilliant Shanae!!!
